Choosing the right bottle for your needs

With so many different options out there, deciding on the right shape, size, and material for your bottle can be a daunting task. Paying attention to details that are important to your brand will help you make the best choice possible, and can either make or break the success of your product.

We’ve simplified the process and outlined a few key details to take into consideration that will lead you to make the right decision. 

Look and Feel

Conveying the identity of your brand through your product is critical; from the size of the logo on the label right through to the container it is in. Customers are becoming more and more aware of packaging and rely on the overall look and feel to create a perceived price point, which helps them to derive the value of the product. Will your product stand out more if the customer can see the contents inside? Or would it be better to have a brightly coloured opaque bottle for ease of identification? Shelf appeal alone can encourage a new customer to add your product to their shopping basket. 

Another factor to consider is the ergonomics of the bottle. How often will your customer use this bottle? Will they use it every day and will it withstand daily wear and tear? How easy is it for them to open? Does holding the bottle feel uncomfortable or is it just the right shape and size? 


Does your product have solvents or acids that require stronger bottles? Do you need your contents in a BPA free bottle? Or maybe recycling is important to your brand.

Certain plastics like HDPE are great against solvents and acids but do not react well with essential oils which can lead to the plastic leaching into the contents. PET is favoured for beauty containers as it creates an oil barrier between the contents and the bottle itself. Plastics like PET and HDPE are some of the most recycled in the world. 

The material of the bottle will also assist in keeping the contents safe during transportation and will ensure the longevity and freshness of the contents.

Cost & Budget

Some bottles look better than others, but at the end of the day, the cost of packaging is a key factor in determining the style of the bottle to go with.

As a general rule, packaging should not cost more than 5% of the retail selling price.
